Last Saturday, 6th February, Joe Kirkham rose to the occasion again in the National Cyclo-Cross Championships at Sutton Coldfield Park.

He managed 13th place in the Youth race, but finished in 2nd place in the Under 15's Category for a podium place.

This followed on from a 2nd place in the Youth Category of the Velo Club's own Cyclo-Cross event at Trent Meadows in January. It was another well supported event with the usual testing course.  Ben Eedy of Derby won the main event.  Toby and Tiffany Fletcher competed in the Youth event and we had several young club entrants in the juvenile categories - all wearing the specially provided club strip !

Sunday, 7th February saw the annual Reliability Trials and there was a good turnout of 95 riders - 75 for the 65 mile Newhaven event and 20 for the 40 mile Tutbury event. 20 Velo Club riders took part.

Oliver Davies of Dinnington RC was first back in the main event, getting away on the Fenny Bentley climb and  clocked a time of 2 hours 58 seconds.  James Salt of PedalPower came in 1 minute later and Derby Mercury's Andy Eagers was third in 3 hours 2seconds.

Geoff Carter, Alan Dalzell, Mark Daine, Brian Peto, Steve Foster and Louise O'Reilly were in tyhe first group back in the 40 mile event in a
time of 2 hours 23 minutes.

Saturday 14th August, 10 riders (3 of which are club members) are leaving The Navigation Inn Breaston and riding to Skegness and back again in a day. The route we've planned back takes us 20 miles further than using the busy A52, this is purely for a safety aspect. The chosen Charity is the Children's Brain Tumour Research based at Nottingham's QMC.
